Set up a proxy on iPhone and Android
Configure your ShadowProxy 4G proxy on your phone or tablet in a few minutes. Step-by-step for iOS and Android, with HTTP and SOCKS5 options.
Before you start
You will need your proxy credentials from the ShadowProxy dashboard:
- Server address (host) — e.g.
fr1.shadowproxy.fr - Port — the HTTP or SOCKS5 port number
- Username and password
These are shown in your dashboard under the proxy details page. You can copy them directly.
iPhone / iPad (iOS) — HTTP proxy
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi.
- Tap the ⓘ icon next to your connected Wi-Fi network.
- Scroll down to HTTP Proxy and tap Configure Proxy.
- Select Manual.
- Enter your proxy Server (host), Port, and turn on Authentication.
- Enter your Username and Password.
- Tap Save.
Your iPhone now routes all Wi-Fi traffic through the proxy. To verify, visit api.ipify.org in Safari — it should show the proxy's IP.
iOS — SOCKS5 with an app
iOS does not natively support SOCKS5 proxies in the settings. To use SOCKS5, install an app like Shadowrocket or Potatso Lite from the App Store. Add a new server with type SOCKS5, enter your credentials, and enable it. These apps create a local VPN tunnel to route your traffic through the SOCKS5 proxy.
Android — HTTP proxy
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi (or Network & Internet → Wi-Fi).
- Long-press your connected Wi-Fi network and select Modify network (or tap the gear icon).
- Tap Advanced options (or expand the section).
- Set Proxy to Manual.
- Enter the Proxy hostname, Proxy port, and leave "Bypass proxy for" empty.
- Tap Save.
Android's built-in proxy setting does not support authentication directly. If your proxy requires a username and password (as ShadowProxy does), use an app instead.
Android — SOCKS5 / authenticated HTTP with an app
Install Drony or SocksDroid from the Play Store. These apps support both HTTP and SOCKS5 with authentication. Configure the proxy type, address, port and credentials. Enable the app and it creates a local VPN tunnel to route traffic through the proxy.
Tips for mobile proxy use
- Wi-Fi only (built-in). The system proxy settings on iOS and Android only apply to Wi-Fi, not mobile data. For mobile data, use one of the apps mentioned above.
- Test after setup. Visit
api.ipify.orgor check the ShadowProxy dashboard to confirm the IP has changed. - Match the timezone. If your proxy is in France, set your phone's timezone to Europe/Paris for consistency when using social media.
- Disable when not needed. Turn off the proxy when browsing normally to avoid routing unnecessary traffic and consuming your data allowance.

Does the proxy work on mobile data or only Wi-Fi?
The built-in proxy settings on iOS and Android only apply to Wi-Fi connections. To use a proxy on mobile data, you need a third-party app that supports HTTP or SOCKS5 proxies, such as Shadowrocket (iOS) or Drony (Android).
Which apps support SOCKS5 on a phone?
On iOS: Shadowrocket, Potatso Lite. On Android: Drony, SocksDroid, ProxyDroid (requires root). These apps can route all device traffic or specific apps through a SOCKS5 proxy.
Does using a proxy drain my battery?
The proxy itself adds negligible battery drain. If you use a third-party VPN-style app to route traffic, it may use slightly more battery due to the local VPN tunnel, but the impact is minimal.
Can I use the same proxy on my phone and my computer?
Yes. Your ShadowProxy credentials work on any device that supports HTTP or SOCKS5 proxies. You can use them on your phone, computer and tablet simultaneously.
Does this work on a tablet too?
Yes. iPads use the same proxy settings as iPhones, and Android tablets use the same settings as Android phones. The configuration steps are identical.
